Once upon a time, in 2015, I embarked on a journey that would change the lives of countless young souls in need of hope, healing, and a second chance. Little did I know that this path I chose would lead me to create something truly extraordinary—a haven of love, compassion, and growth for adolescents struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges.

My name is Marquita Lynch, and I am the founder of Second Chance Dayton Group Home. My heart’s calling has always been to make a positive difference in the lives of those who have faced hardships and struggles at a young age. I believe in principle-centered leadership, the power of self-esteem, and the transformational effects of a supportive peer culture. This belief inspired me to design a program that would nurture these values within our group home for young women.

At Second Chance Dayton, we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to find hope and healing, no matter their past. With this vision in mind, we opened our doors to young women in need of a safe and nurturing environment. But as the program flourished, so did our desire to help even more adolescents, both young women and men, who were facing their own battles.

As I watched the program grow and witnessed the transformation in the lives of these young souls, I knew we were on the right path. The support from my family, especially my loving husband and three incredible children, has been my guiding light throughout this journey. Their encouragement and understanding have given me the strength to continue fighting for the dreams of these struggling teens and their families.

My education in Criminal Justice at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, laid the foundation for my career, but it was in Dayton, Ohio, that I found my true calling—to help families and teenagers in crisis. Second Chance Dayton became a reality, and with it, my dream of creating healthy families and fostering hope.

As I reflect on the journey so far, I am humbled by the amazing team that surrounds me. Every day, our staff is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of these teenagers. Our team’s commitment to protecting and supporting these vulnerable souls is awe-inspiring.

Second Chance Dayton’s Residential Therapeutic Program is like a heartwarming story of transformation. We create an environment that feels like home, with small and serene residences housing no more than five to six residents at a time. Each resident is treated with personalized care, ensuring their specific therapeutic needs are met.

Our experienced staff members, including Case Managers, Supervising Independent Social Workers, Licensed Social Workers, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Therapists, bring diverse backgrounds to the table. Their training in Mental Health First Aid Youth & Adult, QPR Suicide, and Trauma Responsiveness equips them to handle the challenges of substance issues, behavioral problems, and emotional struggles.

We understand that every resident is unique, which is why we tailor individualized programs for each young soul under our care. From cognitive-behavioral therapy to positive peer culture, our treatment plans aim to support residents during their stay and prepare them for reunification with their families.

But our program isn’t just about therapy; it’s about embracing life. Our residents participate in a wide range of activities, from sports like basketball, softball, and swimming to cooking classes and outings to theaters. We believe in the power of wellness and making the journey towards healing enjoyable.

At Second Chance Dayton, we hold the value of client rights close to our hearts. We ensure a safe environment, free from abuse, and prioritize their well-being by providing clean housing, nutritious meals, and personal belongings. We listen to their opinions and include them in

decision-making, fostering their independence and self-respect.

This story of Second Chance Dayton’s Residential Therapeutic Program wouldn’t be complete without mentioning our locations: 1358 Canfield Ave, 411 Marathon Ave, 1438 Kumler Ave in Dayton, and 2641 Brumbaugh Blvd in Trotwood, Ohio. Each location is a place of hope and healing, where young souls find comfort and support.

As I look back on this heart-touching journey, I feel grateful for the amazing friends who have stood by our side and for the guidance of a higher power. It has been a privilege to serve the community and fight for those who need it the most.

At Second Chance Dayton, we continue to believe in the power of empowerment, hope, and second chances. The story is far from over, and we will keep writing chapters of transformation in the lives of adolescents, one soul at a time. Together, we create a brighter future, filled with love and compassion, for the young souls in need of a second chance.
